PeaceJam programs combine 1) standards based literacy, civics, and geography content, 2) leadership development, 3) service-learning, 4) conflict resolution, and 5) character development.
The Core Components of PeaceJam Programs are:
Education: PeaceJam’s curricula are standards-based and designed to stimulate youths’ critical thinking skills, strengthen their research skills, increase their conflict resolution and leadership skills, and promote reflection and action. The programs are Juniors, Leaders, Ambassadors, Scholars and Juvenile Justice.
Inspiration: Each curriculum teaches about the lives and work of the Nobel Peace Laureates through age-appropriate activities and content. Youth get to know the personal and harrowing stories of the 12 PeaceJam Nobel Peace Laureates and how these role models work to solve problems through non-violence. PeaceJam also brings Nobel Peace Prize winners together with high-school aged youth for two-day PeaceJam Youth Conferences.
Action: PeaceJam curricula put youth in the authentic role of being peacemakers. Youth generate ideas for their own service-learning projects within the framework of PeaceJam’s Global Call to Action that address the root causes of the most pressing issues facing their communities including poverty, racism, violence, and environmental problems.
