NHS cancer patients to be offered experimental drugs
According to this post in The Telegraph (5/12/11), there may be new hope for cancer patients in the UK!
The Prime Minister will say that rules on the medical approval of new drugs could be changed to offer novel treatments to people with serious cancers and other conditions.
The change could mean that seriously ill patients get access to new drugs more quickly than anywhere else in the world, Downing Street said.
Mr Cameron will announce a consultation on the new rules in a speech that will also pave the way for medical firms to get access to NHS data on patients.
Ministers believe that working more closely with the industry – including many more clinical trials in NHS hospitals – will encourage innovation and benefit patients.
